Drug discovery and development

In the field of drug discovery and development, Cellvizio technology is mainly used to:

  • Evaluate new drug delivery tools to cross the blood-brain barrier or to access very specific tumor sites
  • Monitor in real time the delivery of a drug candidate to a target site
  • Follow the effect of a drug on tissue vasculature or histology
     

Real-time follow-up of nanoparticles aggregation in tumor microcirculation for targeted drug delivery

In this example, the aggregation of magnetic nanoparticles labeled with DiR is monitored in real time. Tumor microvasculature is labeled using FITC-Dextran.

Control experiment: non-magnetic nanoparticles do not aggregate during the application of a magnetic field.

Magnetic nanoparticles aggregate during the application of a magnetic field. They aggregate near the tumor vessel wall. No vascular damage is observed.
