Stem Cell Imaging with Cellvizio LAB
High-resolution and low invasiveness allow cell homing within the live animal
Cellvizio® LAB allows high-resolution, real-time visualization of stem cells in vivo.
This is achieved with minimal invasiveness and high reproducibility, thereby making it possible to track stem cell signaling and migration longitudinally in live animals. Below are two examples of cutting-edge stem cell research done with our system
| The Cellvizio microprobe, 300 μm in diameter, is inserted into the femur and then translated in the bone marrow along the diaphysis from the knee to the femoral head. Images of transplanted GFP expressing hematopoietic stem cells (LSKCD34-) are acquired in real-time. | |||
| This sensitive in vivo technique allows for the detection of individual cells and early recruitment and reconstitution can be monitored. Furthermore, owing to the minimally invasive nature of the Cellvizio technology, longitudinal monitoring of the same animal can be performed. | |||
| Left, an abundance of cells were readily imaged at the site of injection. | |||
| Left, in the contralateral leg it was feasible to image individual cells which had migrated from the injection site. |
Importantly, individual cells can not be detected in the contralateral leg when imaged with whole body imaging systems.
Cellvizio has the sensitivity required for imaging individual stem cells at low density with heterogeneous distribution early in the therapeutic process in addition to allowing for longitudinal assessment of recovery.
Methods:
In vivo imaging was performed 72 hours after the intramuscular injection of 2x106 murine stem cells labeled with a NIR fluorophore into the left hindlimb.
