Innovation

Story and vision

Our founder and CEO's vision was that the power of astronomical technologies could serve physicians, researchers and patients by enabling new medical imaging modalities. This vision was carried out by an extraordinary team of dedicated people from a great variety of disciplines.

Over the years, this vision has been reinforced and renewed, opening new horizons as our technologies became available to a greater number of physicians, researchers and therefore to patients.

Our first and major innovation is the Cellvizio platform, enabling dynamic in vivo microscopic imaging, almost anywhere in the living body. Cellvizio is now serving the community of gastroenterologists and pulmonologists, as well as a large community of researchers in various fields including neuroscience, cancerology or stem cells.

We expect to deliver many more innovative devices in the years to come, complementing our Cellvizio platform or opening new areas of development.

We are deeply involved in the development of the clinical applications of our Cellvizio platform, helping physicians learn and share their knowledge with the largest possible community, so that they can in turn offer the best clinical practice to their patients. We have developed new ways to bring the community of physicians together and we are helping them reconfigure the way they manage their patients, with less invasive and more efficient procedures.

The story behind our name and our logo
Mauna Kea ("White Mountain") is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. The highest point in the Pacific Basin, and the highest island-mountain in the world, Mauna Kea rises 9,750 meters (32,000 ft) from the ocean floor to an altitude of 4,205 meters (13,796 ft) above sea level, which places its summit above 40 percent of the Earth's atmosphere. Mauna Kea is a near-ideal site for an astronomical observatory and is the host of some of the largest and most powerful telescopes in the world. Our founder spent countless nights at the summit of Mauna Kea, observing stars from the 10m Keck Telescope.

We wanted a logo that brought together some of the key concepts around our work: stars, cells, fiber optics and the notion of a community. We hope you recognize all these in our logo!
