    Albert Waxman, Ph.D.

    Chairman of the Board

    In 1998, Dr. Waxman founded Psilos, an investment company specialized in healthcare, with offices in New York, the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Fe. Before founding Psilos, he was most recently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Merit Behavioral Care and its predecessor companies, American Biodyne and Medco Behavioral Care, where he achieved very successful financial operations. Prior to this, Dr. Waxman founded and served as President, Chairman and CEO of Diasonics, Inc., one of the first medical companies to provide ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging in the U.S. In addition to his current Psilos responsibilities, Dr. Waxman serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the New York City Investment Fund.
    Dr. Waxman holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Physics from Princeton University.
     

  • André-Michel Ballester

    André-Michel Ballester is Chief Executive Officer of Sorin Group. Since 2004 André-Michel Ballester has been President of the Cardiac Rhythm Management Business Unit of Sorin Group, the largest European cardiovascular company and world leader in medical technologies for cardiac surgery. Ballester was, from 2000 to 2004, Corporate Vice President EMEA, Asia and Latin America for Edwards Lifesciences. For over ten years prior to Edwards' spin-off from Baxter, Ballester also held several executive positions in Europe and in the USA, and was appointed President, CardioVascular Group, Europe in 1997. Born in Orleansville, Algeria, and raised in France, Ballester received his M.S. degree in Engineering from Ecole Centrale, Lille, France, and his M.B.A. from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.

  • David Eichler

    Mr. Eichler joined Psilos in April 1999 and has focused on investments in the healthcare services and medical technology areas. Prior to joining Psilos, Mr. Eichler was an investment banker at Wasserstein Perella & Co., where he worked on numerous mergers and acquisitions and restructuring assignments as a member of the firm's Healthcare Group.
    Mr. Eichler earned an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, where he received the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence (top 10% of class). He holds another masters degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree in Government and International Relations from Cornell University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
     

  • Sacha Loiseau, Ph.D.

    Sacha founded Mauna Kea Technologies in May 2000 and has been the CEO ever since. He piloted the development of the Cellvizio product line and brought together a world-class executive team to raise over € 32 million with investors specialized in the health industry. In July 2011, he successfully led the company to an initial public offering on the NYSE Euronext Paris index and raised € 56.5 million to fund a large-scale commercial development. Sacha started his career at the National Center for Space Studies (CNES) in Toulouse and at the Paris Observatory, then joined NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, as a research scientist. Sacha is a graduate of the École Polytechnique in Paris and has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and Optical Instrumentation.

    Nicolas Mulliez, 52, brings 25 years of French and American business culture. Entrepreneur since mid-2007, he develops Energy Efficiency devices and promotes the growth of biomass for co-firing in electricity production. He also is the chairman of Epi Breads that he founded 25 years ago. With 400 employees and 2 plants, this company manufactures the bread part of about 400 millions sandwiches a year. He also served in various capacities for Camaieu (clothing store chain) for 5 years and at Phildar (Handy Craft chain). He received a business education at ESC Lille, graduated in accounting at DECS and received a Master degree at GSU.

  • Bertrand de Talhouët

    CEO of CREADEV since September 2010, Bertrand has 16 years of experience in retail, with the department store Printemps, Fnac (specialized in cultural products), and the mail order company La Redoute. He graduated from Polytechnique Engineering school and ENA before working in sales management, marketing, purchasing and as CEO, throughout his career. He joined the Mulliez family office in June 2008 for the INDEV project, an investment vehicle dedicated to higher than 40M€ stake in companies. This project was transferred to CREADEV after he took over as CEO in 2010.

  • Philippe Maes

    Dr. Philippe Maes is a Partner at Finadvance. He joined the company in January 2000 and specializes in venture capital transactions. Previously, Dr. Maes worked at Gemplus, which he co-founded in 1988. He held several positions: responsible of Product development, Applications Support and Technical Marketing until 1992, General Manager of Gemplus Card International in Germany until 1999, Managing Director of Gemplus Software and vice-president of Gemplus until 2000. Prior to Gemplus, Dr. Maes was in charge of the development of programmable products at Thomson Semiconductor/STMicroelectronics and from 1972 to 1981, he was in charge of the Applications Department at National Semiconductor Europe. He is a Member of the Board of Directors at Finadvance SA, Mauna Kea Technologies, Criston SA and Bantry Technologies. Dr. Maes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from ENSEM and a Ph.D. in Electronics and Medical Engineering.

    Chris manages the Health Evolution Partners Spectrum Fund and is a member of the Health Evolution Partners Spectrum Fund’s Commitment Committee. He is part of the Board of Directors at Foundation Radiology Group and is a former member of Prematics (sold to Navinet) and Picis Solutions (sold to UnitedHealth Group). He joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1999 as a vice president and was named managing director in 2004. He most recently directed debt and equity investments in private and public North American-based health care companies as part of Goldman Sachs’ Americas Special Situations Group (AmSSG). From 1999 to 2006, Chris was a senior equity research analyst responsible for Goldman Sachs’ US health care services research coverage and served as a member of the Global Investment Research Sounding Board. Prior to joining Goldman, Sachs, Chris was a senior research analyst with Wheat First Securities, now Wells Fargo Securities. He is also former chairman of the advisory board, Philip Coltoff Center of the Children’s Aid Society, founder of RAMP, a mentoring program for undergraduate students, and a trustee of the Montefiore Medical Center in New York as well as the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. Chris holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Richmond and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA.

    Thierry is the former President and CEO of EndoGastric Solutions (EGS) and has more than 30 years experience in the medical device industry. During his career, he has built successful businesses including four start-up medical device companies (Origin MedSystems Inc., Intuitive Surgical Inc., ISRG and Accuray Inc.) and helped introduce technologies and procedures that have pushed the boundaries of minimally invasive surgery in the North American market. Prior to joining EGS, ThierryThaure was Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Accuray and first VP Sales and Marketing at Robotic leader Intuitive Surgical.
